InsuraGuard ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our insurance-backed guarantee platform.

3. What Information Do We Collect?

When you purchase a service through us, we'll collect some of your personal details to make sure you have everything you need to make the most of our services. Please rest assured that we'll only use this for administering your contract and to support the delivery of the services you've asked for.

3.1 Personal Information

Examples of the types of personal information we usually collect are:

  • Phone number (including mobile)
  • Installation address
  • Date of birth and age
  • Any additional requirements such as large print documentation
  • Details of any additional authorized parties who can manage your requirements on your behalf
  • IP address for your device (if visiting our website)
  • Once you are a customer of ours, we record information about the types of services we provide to you
  • Where you opt out of receiving marketing information from us, we will keep a record of this

The information requested during the registration process is required to complete the purchase and forms part of your contract with us. If any of the data is missing or incorrect, we may not be able to process your request.

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details. We retain:

3.5 Collection of Additional Information

To help us fulfill our obligations regarding vulnerable customers and consumer duty, with your explicit consent, we may collect additional information relating to your personal circumstances (e.g., disability, mobility, health care needs) that may impact how you access our services. This information will only be used to better assist us in providing our services to you. You can request to have this information removed at any time and we will not hold it for any longer than 12 months after your policy ends.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Process your registration and issue your insurance certificate
  • Maintain your insurance-backed guarantee
  • Process claims if your installer ceases trading
  • Send you important updates about your policy
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Improve our services

5. Our Legal Basis for Using Your Data

In most circumstances, we use the personal data you provide to us in order to perform our contract with you and to provide you with the services that you have decided to purchase from us.

We process your personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract: To fulfill our contractual obligations to provide insurance-backed guarantee services
  • Consent: Where you have given explicit consent for specific processing activities (e.g., marketing communications, collection of vulnerability information)
  • Legal Obligation: To comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Legitimate Interests: To improve our services, prevent fraud, and ensure our products are used properly. We may contact you for research purposes to gain insight on recent interactions with us, and we may use open-source data to check whether policy usage is in line with terms and conditions

If you choose to tell us about a vulnerability (e.g., disability, mobility, health care needs) that may impact how you access our services, we will collect additional information relating to your personal circumstances with your explicit consent to better assist us in providing our services to you.

6. Sharing Your Data with Third Parties

We respect your privacy and that's why we don't generally give your data to any third parties for marketing purposes. However, we may share your information with carefully selected third parties for the following reasons:

6.1 Service Providers

To deliver the services you've asked for, which might include:

  • Supabase: Database and storage hosting
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • SendGrid: Email delivery services
  • Vercel: Website hosting
  • Suppliers who print and send policy documents on our behalf
  • Members of your family, household, or other people who have an interest in the property (with your permission)

6.2 Insurance Partners

We share relevant information with our insurance partners to maintain your coverage and process claims.

6.3 Legal or Regulatory Purposes

We may disclose your information:

  • For legal or regulatory purposes including fraud prevention
  • If we buy or sell any business or company assets
  • If required by law or to protect our legal rights

6.4 International Transfers

Some of the data that we collect may be transferred to and stored at a destination outside the UK or the European Economic Area, for example some of our IT systems are run on servers hosted in the USA. We take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated in accordance with this privacy notice and applicable privacy laws.

7. Keeping and Storing Your Data

We maintain a record retention policy and schedule to make sure we keep a copy of your personal details for no longer than is necessary. We will process your data while you hold a policy in order to be able to service it, in line with the purposes explained in this notice.

We retain your personal data for 10 years from your registration date, or as required by law. This retention period aligns with your insurance coverage period. We may also retain your data after your relationship has ended with us, in order to keep accurate records for tax, regulatory purposes and to handle any future complaints.

After this period, your data will be securely deleted unless we have a legal obligation to retain it longer.

8. Your Rights Matter

If you'd like to see the personal information that we hold about you, you can request a copy any time. If you find that this information is incorrect you can ask for it to be updated. Or, if you believe the information is being processed without a legal basis, you can ask us to stop or request that it's deleted from our systems.

Under GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal obligations)
  • Right to Restriction: Request limitation of processing

We won't ever charge you for a copy of your personal data but we may ask you for proof of your identity before we disclose any information. Once we've verified your identity, we'll send you a copy of the personal data we hold within one month.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption of data at rest
  • Access controls and authentication
  • Regular security audits
  • Secure backup procedures

10. Marketing Communications

Whenever we collect your personal information we'll give you the opportunity to let us know how you'd like us to get in touch in the future. We promise not to inundate you with marketing messages, but we also understand if you'd prefer not to receive such messages from us.

You can change your mind at any time by contacting us at support@insuraguard.co.uk. You will find an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every marketing email we send to you.

If you've given us an email address you may receive messages related to the management of your policy via email, which include policy and renewal documents. If you'd prefer not to receive these messages in this way, just let us know and we'll be happy to provide them in paper form instead.

11. Customer Profiles

We carry out something called 'profiling' so we can understand the needs, behaviours and characteristics of our customers. This helps us make sure that we're offering the right services to the right people and can tailor our offerings to current customers, enhancing the potential benefits of being a customer.

12. Cookies

We use essential cookies to ensure our website functions properly. These cookies are necessary for:

We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
